Brownsville Marine Products, LLC (BMP) started the process of preparing for operations in October of 2005, under new private ownership.  Production started in February of 2006.  Our first barge launch was on April 26, 2006. 

The facility that BMP operates at has been producing marine vessels since 1939.  Everyone in the local community remembers this facility as being the “Hillman Barge” company.  This is a name that is engrained into the minds of the locals.  This is because many still living in the local community and some who have moved on to other locations used to work for Hillman Barge.  This facility has been known for its high quality barges and will continue to hold this reputation as the owners and management team revive this facility and expand its products and services.

Our ownership and leadership team has over 200 years combined experience in the maritime industry.  We also have a diverse experience level that is from outside of the maritime industry that ranges from aerospace to automotive to service industries.  This helps bring in different perspectives on management and operations tactics and strategies, which allows us to take advantage of implementing positive processes without trying to reinvent the wheel, to use a cliché.  Our academic backgrounds range from Harvard graduates to various state university graduates to good old fashioned many years of hands on experience, of which all are equally important to us.

Through the professional development of its employees, Brownsville Marine Products has opened its own weld school and facilitates all equipment training. Other training initiatives are under way which will strengthen the Administrative Support Staff and continue to provide professional development for our employees.

It is the collaborative efforts of the owners, the management team, the supervisors, the strong work force and support staff that have earned Brownsville Marine Products an outstanding reputation in the barge building industry as well as the satisfaction of being highly respected in the local community. Brownsville Marine Products, LLC continues to build strong relationships with local and political leaders to assist in the revitalization of the areas economic health.
